HOYS tickets to Chaseview Overseer (Lwt Hunter), Woodfield Indo (Mwt Hunter) and Opium Valette (Small Hunter)
Show Report:
Today saw Addington's Autumn Showing Festival, featuring the last of this season's hunter HOYS qualifiers. Classes were well supported, despite the blustery weather heralding the end of the summer sunshine!
Katie Jerram started the day by heading the lightweight hunters, pulled top of a well-filled class on her parents' Azarax. With few outings under the belt in recent months due to Katie's unfortunate accident this summer, Azarax was following on from a successful Hunter Show, proving his versitility where he was Ladies hunter Champion. Second to Katie in the final line-up was Richard Mills, picking up his HOYS ticket for Karen Waterston, riding her Chaseview Overseer. The Jerram team continued their winning form into the middleweight class, taking top honours, the hunter ridden championship and that all-important HOYS qualifying ticket, with Woodfield Indo. The 2009 Dublin supreme ridden hunter was following up his successful debut on English soil at Addington last week, where he took the lightweight class and subsequent five-year-old hunter title at the NHSCS.
Heavyweights were not so well supported, with only four horses forward. However, the competition remained strong with the top two already in possession of their Birmingham tickets. Rory Gilsenan started what was to be a good day for him, when S Roche's Cabra West headed the line-up and took reserve champion, followed by Oliver Hood on Actflynlad. Jo Jenkins just missed out, staying in third spot with Foxcourt All Talk.
The Smalls were hotly contested, with several top riders vying for the last HOYS ticket of the season. With the top three remaining unchanged from their initial pull, Adam Windbourne took the top spot and his ticket, riding his own Opium Valette. By this point, the wind was even more fierce, causing a few unsettled horses as flags flapped and fences were blown over in the arena.
With a few more sandbags applied to wings and poles readjusted, it was decided to continue with the Working Hunter classes in the outdoor International Arena. These classes were well contested, with 11 forward in the lightweights, 8 in the heavyweights and the top two in both already qualified for HOYS. The course proved more testing for the first class of the day, with only 5 clears, two by Chris Hall - firstly with Colonel Cooper, then Rosscarberrys' Royal Flush, whom he chose to bring forward to final judging.
Rory Gilsenan continued his winning streak from the heavyweight ridden class with Andrea Robinson's striking grey, Irish Whisper II, taking first place after a fluent clear. Second place was Mrs Underwood's Paper Moon, with Caroline Keen riding Sharon Mills' Pencarder Miss Ramexico in third.
The heavyweights provided some superb clears, with a win for Libby Cooke on Harley Foxtrot, closely followed by Louise Bell on her own Get Smart. This versatile horse also came fourth in the earlier ridden middleweight class. Michelle Baker took third spot on her consistent Noble Bing, easily making the transition into open classes, having recently taken the Supreme WHP title at the BSPS Championships in this, her last year of Intermediates. Jo Geddes' scopey clear on Keep Talking and Ginny Rose on her own Out Of Order completed the line-up. The strength of this class was shown by the top two heavyweights taking champion and reserve worker, to close the day. We look forward to seeing everyone again shortly at the NEC!
