FAQs

How much does it cost to register?

Nothing. Registration is free and there are no hidden subscription charges.

What are the benefits of registering?

Many. But apart from being able to enter shows online, it will also enable you to search our exhaustive database of affilliated shows across the UK.

Can I enter a horse even if I'm not the legal owner?

Absolutely. At present, you are able to store in your profile the details of all the horses and people you need to enable you to enter a show. Just as if you were doing it with pen and paper! In the future, with validating registration details, qualifications gained or horses identities etc, we may require the owner to "validate" your use of their details, but at present we are operating under the same restrictions as if you were entering all those details in by hand. Nothing is different, except you don't have to keep repeating them!

How do we pay for our entries on line and is it really safe?

Payment for entries through our website can be made by most major credit and debit cards, including American Express. We process the payments though Streamline, which is Europe's leading card processing system - almost one in every two card transactions made uses this system - and conducts full credit and fraud checks on each payment. If you pay for entries through The Show Register you can be reassured we use the safest technology available to process it and if you are taking payments through The Show Register, you can be sure they have undergone full credit and fraud checks, so the entry isn't processed until the money is received.

Will I be able to enter all shows on line?

You will only be able to enter those shows choosing to accept on line entries through The Show Register. The "beta" website is initially only taking entries for the North Somerset show to enable us to test everything fully, but during March we will launch the full website with more shows signed up. If you have a favourite show or equestrian centre where you compete - get them to sign up! If you belong to a club or society that is holding a show this year, why not tell them about the service as there are many benefits to show organisers as well.

I'm having problems registering or have not received my registration log-in details yet. Help!

If you are having difficulty in registering, please email members@theshowregister.com. The most common reason is that an incorrect email address has been used. If the email address is wrong we cannot contact you. If you have not received your log-in details yet, please check your spam filter. Many ISPs, particularly AOL, send unidentified emails straight to a Junk or Spam email folder. You should check this folder before contacting us, as subsequent emails could be affected in the same way. To ensure our emails get to you, please add info@theshowregister.com to your e-mail Address Book or Safe List.

How do I add a horse to my profile?

Once you have registered and are logged in, go to your home page and click on the "Add Horse/Pony" button under the heading "My Animals". This will take you to a form asking you for several pieces of information. Please fill in as much information as you have available to you, as this will ensure your entries are processed swiftly and easily. Don't forget, you only have to fill the information in once.

What is a passport UELN and why is it important to enter it?

UELN stands for the Unique Equine Life Number, which you will find on your horse's passport (or the Section IX pages if these were issued separately). Each horse has this number and it is used to link all details (i.e. other passports or stud book documentation) of your horse together. This number will be supplied by the organisation that issues the passport. The first three digits will be a country code (826 for the UK) and the next three digits a code belonging to the Organisation issuing the passport. The last nine digits will be issued by the passport issuing organisation to identify each horse or pony registered with it. If your horse has its UELN stored in your profile, it means in the future we can use it to validate results stored on the system and our aim is to provide a link with the NEDonline records.

What do I do if my horse is registered to a society not on your list?

If you need to store details associated with your horse that you will use during an entry process, such as a membership number or registration details, but cannot enter them on line as the club/society/organisation is not listed, please just send an email to members@theshowregister.com stating the details you wanted to include and we will add it on for you. We would rather you stored more information than less, so don't be afraid to get in touch!

Why do you ask for my mobile telephone and home telephone numbers?

We ask for your mobile number in case you wish to receive text alerts from shows you have entered (e.g. if your judge changes or the show is postponed). We also ask for your home telephone number as an emergency contact number if required whilst you are attending a show entered through The Show Register. This is of particular importance if you attend shows on your own.

My date of birth isn't required to enter the classes I compete in, so why do you ask for it?

There are two reasons we ask for your date of birth. Firstly, if there are age restrictions on classes (notably if you are aged 25 and under) this is mandatory. However, we also kindly ask everyone to provide this information as it is simply useful data for us to gather. Please note it is purely for our own interest (we don't share your details with anyone except the shows you enter), so we can monitor the demographics of the website and make sure it appeals to everyone!

I am really interested in finding out more about what The Show Register does. How can I do that?

We would like to hear from anyone that either uses this site or has an interest in the agricultural/equine world. Feel free to offer us feedback, advice, or just to ask more - please email members@theshowregister.com - we look forward to hearing from you.

So who is behind The Show Register? I would prefer to contact a human!

The Show Register was founded by Faye Abraham, a keen rider and competitor in both eventing, show jumping and showing. Having worked in the City of London for 8 years, latterly as an advisor to Private Equity, Faye was keen to return to her equine roots. It was during one of her regular trips to a successful professional showing yard, where she escaped to ride every weekend, that she recognised the need for a more efficient way to find and enter shows. The sheer volume of schedules and regimental planning required at the start of each season was mind-boggling! Grasping the opportunity with both hands, she set about creating The Show Register. If you would like to find out more, or contact Faye directly, please email faye.abraham@theshowregister.com

Can you explain the categories used in Discipline/Category/Classes?

Classifications for the Show Search function

To search more easily for shows holding the classes you wish to compete in, we have created a simplified format, split into Disciplines (e.g. Unaffiliated Showing), Categories (e.g. In-hand classes) and Divisions (e.g. M&M Small Breeds). Below we have illustrated some popular searches.

If you feel there could be improvements to this layout, or indeed there are classes which are misrepresented, please let us know as we would like this to be as easy to use as possible!

Examples of how you would search for the classes you are interested in:

Affiliated Large Riding Horse classes

Discipline = Showing – Affiliated
Category = Ridden
Division = Riding Horse

BSJA Pony Discovery classes

Discipline = Show Jumping - Affiliated
Category = BSJA Ponies
Division = 90cms (inc. Discovery 1st Round)

HOYS qualifiers for a Welsh Section D

Discipline = Showing – Affiliated
Category = Ridden
Division = M&M – Large Breeds
and tick the box marked "HOYS"

RIHS Intermediate Show Hunter Pony qualifying classes:

Discipline = Showing – Affiliated
Category = Ridden
Division = Show Hunter Pony
and tick the box marked "RIHS"

Cuddy qualifiying shows for HOYS:

Discipline = Showing – Affiliated
Category = In-hand
Division = Cuddy
and tick the box marked "HOYS"

Unaffiliated Riding Club Horse classes:
Discipline = Showing – Unaffiliated
Category = Ridden
Division = Working Hunter/Riding (Club) Horse

All weights, heights, Intermediates and Lead-rein/FR classes are under their main category, (e.g. Show Hunter Pony, Show Pony, Working Hunter Pony, Hunters, Cobs) to include shows with grouped/mixed-height classes.

M&M classes are divided into Small and Large Breeds rather than their respecitve breed, e.g. M&M Small Breeds includes Dartmoor, Exmoor, Welsh Section A, Welsh Section B and M&M Large Breeds includes Dales, Connemara, New Forest, Highland, Welsh Section C, Welsh Section D.

"Affiliated" indicates the class or show is a qualifier for a championship show (e.g. SSA National Championships, Olympia, Equifest etc) or is affiliated to the appropriate society (e.g. British Dressage, BSJA, BSHA etc).

All unaffiliated classes that are cannot be placed in another of the categories, such as Prettiest Pony, Tack and Turnout etc, are included under the heading "Fun Pony Classes".
